It takes two to tango.
Co-owners, dance partners, and husband-and- wife team Shawn & Katie Clark opened The Connected Dancer in 2013, from a deep belief in the power of dance to positively change lives. With a whole-person approach to dancing and teaching, they constantly emphasize the joy, the positivity, and the growth that dance can bring to mind, body, and spirit.
No matter what goals a dancer has - whether it's to experience the wonder of connecting to a partner; to go out and dance anytime, with anybody, to any music; to improve physical fitness or balance or flexibility; to express oneself through movement; or to move freely and without inhibition - The Connected Dancer can help you achieve exactly that. Shawn and Katie tailor the learning experience for each student, believing that your dance journey should be as unique and wonderful as you are. There are countless ways to approach any lesson, and The Connected Dancer brings the best of the traditional dance industry, enriched by a much wider and deeper perspective and appreciation for the wonderful complexity of life and human experience. It's dance instruction - designed around you!
Shawn and Katie have been a professional partnership since 2013, and have been a couple just as long. They got married in July of 2017 in beautiful Cambria, California - and you better believe that wedding had a dance floor!
Shawn Groth clark
Shawn started dancing when he was fourteen years old, and before the age of 20, had risen to international status and acclaim. He's worked at some of the most prestigious and successful studios in the world, and has trained countless teachers on teaching, dancing, and business savvy.
His greatest strength, however, is his ability to connect dancers with their own bodies, their own energy, and the energy and movement of their partners. It absolutely transforms dancers, both on and off the floor, resulting in better dancing and a better quality of life. He is a holistic dancer, believing that good movement quality and good emotional content should be true in any setting, not just on the dance floor, and his teaching embraces that same philosophy.
